What Makes A Fashion Girl?

After we discussed who were and were absolutely not fashion girls on Instagram, we posed the most important question, “What Makes A Fashion girl?”. To be a “Fashion Girl” it’s not enough for one to follow the newest collections, study the older collections, buy archive pieces and have access to stylists, shoppers and designer; personal style and trend setting is paramount. So often we see celebrities and instagram girls branding as fashion girls and yet, the clothes are literally wearing them or, they look like replicas of the Instagram baddie you scrolled past in the last 2 min.

Fashion and personal style have always been mediums for self-expression; who you are and who you want to be in the world, not either or. You can not fake personal style and that’s key to being a fashion girl.

4 Types of Fashion Girls

The Flirty Feminine

This girl plans her outfits around a good brunch, summers in the Hamptons, trips to Paris and plans to warm her hands at the fireplace on a family trip to Aspen. She prefers to wear skirts, pastels, has a good SA at Chanel and is working on her relationships at Hermes. Ruffles from Love Shack Fancy, date night outfits from Revolve and Agent Provocateur lingerie. All of her outfits are super flirty and remind you of the perfect barbie doll.

The Street Style Girl

Madame street style is a girl who truly embodies effortless style. What she wears casually is a true reflection of her tastes and worldly experiences. She’s thrifted in Soho before everyone else figured out how to do it. You see her roaming through Patron of The New, never shies away from bold prints and appreciates the artistry of new designers. Sometimes you’d find her scouring the mens section “because sometimes their clothes are just better.”

The Avante Garde Guardian

Her favorite designers are McQueen, Mugler, Galliano, and Rick. She stops at buildings and wonders who built them. She isn’t afraid of wearing obscure silhouettes and outfits don’t need to be head to toe designer to make a statement, she is the statement. These dolls can probably tailor and have altered their clothes themselves more times they can count. They take art seriously but don’t mind having margaritas at the museum and make the perfect muse.

The Femme Fatale

This girl embodies “grown woman vibes”. She is sexy, wears clean lines, loves lace, satin, silk and leather. She is who you search on Instagram to inspire a hot date night outfit. She knows all the best places to eat, drink and travel. Like the The Flirty Feminine, she wears Agent Provocateur but wears hers so that it subtly pokes through her outfit like an accessory. Legs are one of her greatest assets and loves adding shimmer to her decollate. She’s every man’s dream girl, the envy of all women and has the best man advice.
