Some of the greatest success stories come from people who were counted out, left, given a bad hand, homeless, abused, etc etc. What separates them from the people who weren’t and didn’t accomplish what they did was the ability to keep going, despite odds stacked high against them. Not every success story had people on the sidelines cheering or huge financial contributions, a lot of it came out of need for change and belief that it’ll come. One story you hear amongst people who made it big is the classic story of a teacher telling them they weren’t good enough, a family member calling them ugly or an ex lover telling them they wouldn’t be sh*t without them. Someone else’s rejection can motivate you to the next level like you would never imagine.
Transmuting energy is simply taking the energy that was given to you and changing it into something that can be useful to you. When unfavorable instances happen in your life it’s easy to dwell, ruminate, stew, talk to all your friends about it. Often the easy thing to do wastes the most time; which is dangerous, time is something you simply just can’t get back. The things that trigger your emotions can either become a weapon to defeat you or tools you can use to build you. If you are ruled by your emotions then you need a better understanding of what emotions really are; energy in motion. To emote means to express, if you don’t express, you repress. Why waste that energy in repressing when you can emote and change it to something you desire.
Beyonce used Jay Z’s dusty cheating energy ways to create the first visual album, Lemonade, his album 4:44, and then The Carters album. Who knows what we would’ve gotten from the creatively if Beyonce took her sh*t lying down? Would Jay-Z even go to therapy without the threat of losing his family? Would we get the harmony in Family Feud inspired by The Clark Sisters?! I don’t think so. But seriously, how far would have Beyonce gone if she took her Ls professionally and romantically lying down?

Yana! This post is so insightful. The way you framed the idea of “responding vs reacting” and dove into the beauty of transmitting energy was on point. I appreciate the examples and the juxtaposition of victim/warrior. When our triggers are rooted in trauma, it can be very difficult not to be a slave to our emotions. Taking that same “energy in motion” that was given to us, as you put it and shifting our perspective is no easy task, but IS the key to growth, success, and healing! What a word. I thoroughly appreciate you touching on this topic as a lot of this post resonated with me, so thank you for the reminder. <3
Always always always!! Thank you!! I’m so glad this resonated!
