As I was dozing off in my sleep, I was inspired by Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV:

18 Forget the former things;

    do not dwell on the past.

19 See, I am doing a new thing!

    Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness

    and streams in the wasteland.

Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past… See, I am doing a NEW thing! One of the most unproductive things we can do is dwell in the past. Dwelling or harping over former people, places and things, can keep you trapped in suffering or nostalgia. The past, no matter how comforting or toxic, can be perceived as a safe space when it might be a prison. Replaying events of the past can distract you from seeing the NEW thing God is working in your life. 

SEE, I am doing a new thing! 

Be present in God’s vision. Focus on the “new” He is working in your life, be excited! God exclaimed that He IS doing a good thing and He wants your eyes on it in the process. But, you can not see the new thing manifesting keeping your sights on the past. God said, “see, I AM DOING a new thing”, he is working on something new, in you, right now. He is not concerned about turning the hands of time to rectify the past, amplify a moment, change what occurred, or make you relive. He is working on your new job opportunity, your new car, your restored health, your relationships, your mind, your spirit, your vision, your peace. He is working on something that you need to be in attendance of. If you do not believe it is there, how will you know to see it!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? 

To spring is to jump suddenly or rapidly move upward or forward. When we ruminate over the past, we can’t realize how fast time moves or recognize how quickly your blessings are standing before you. Things that spring rise quickly. Blessings can rise quickly. You may have squandered blessings before you because you were too blinded to PERCEIVE IT. How many times have you not done the best on an assignment and look back on it, regretful because you didn’t make the right play? How many times have you been a blessing to somebody and they blew it because they didn’t treat you as one? How many times have you missed an opportunity because you thought you weren’t good enough but saw someone else less qualified reaping the benefits of having faith? How can you know how to tend to a blessing when you can’t perceive that it is! 

I am making a way in the wilderness…

God said, I got this. He is cutting out weeds, blockages, poison, predators set out to attack you and eat you alive. He is casting light in the midst of darkness, he is making DIRECTION for you in a place of wild uncertainty and constant survival; and telling you to have faith to follow Him. Do you know how divinely protected and loved you are having someone go before you to fight any enemy, threat or trap to create a clear path for you? Some of you are the very first people in your family to graduate college, get a masters, make 6 figures, be in healthy marriages, travel the country, leave the country, fall in love, own a home, become famous, be an inspiration, love God, live out of poverty, break generational curses, heal trauma, go to therapy, change their diet… you had no role model. God is the model and clearing that path for you!

Watch Him do it. 

and streams in the wasteland…

Things we have experienced that no longer serve us get discarded in the wasteland. Toxins that get flushed out of your body gets flushed out by bowel waste. If it didn’t we’d be full of -. You waste time digging through rubble that God is clearing to create streams! He is clearing out your battles in the wilderness, making a path to lead you to a flow of blessings. Can’t you perceive it? Streams flow. They flow through rivers and oceans. They expand across territory and provide sustenance for all things abundant and fruitful. There would be no life if it were no stream of water, consciousness, or direction. 

Let God use whatever it is that you are clinging onto for something new in your life. Don’t let the comfort of what was rob you of what is and manifesting. Revealing what and who lives in the wasteland will have you drinking trash before fresh blessings. Why dishonor yourself that way when you can be free and explore a new path? Why not trust the God that made you in His image and likeness to follow the stream of blessings? Why not have faith to forget? 

Forget does not mean it did not happened, what was said, who said it, why it happened, when it happened it, or to believe it wasn’t real. It means it no longer has significance over your life. It means it is a tiny drop, a mere morsel, compared to the stream of abundance flowing to you. It is so insignificant you forget it even WAS.
