What have you been watching and listening to lately? Y’all know me, I love a good story line with a glamorous, well to do, uppity cast and I love an R&B ballad. Glamour and yearning are love languages to me, idk.
I was sick a few weeks ago and the only thing that made my sinuses less miserable was binge watching the entire season of Palm Royale. Set in 1969, an ambitious wife of a pilot sets out to join a very exclusive social club in Palm Beach’s high society. As most elite women’s circles are, they are very selective, protective, invitation only and elitist. Viewers get a chance to see how the well to do wives live amongst the haves and how the have nots fight to get in! I literally could not stop watching, it is the perfect amount of humor, fashion, character development and… murder. And Carol Burnett is listed on the bill, 10/10 TV.
Speaking of high society TV, The Gilded Age. Set in the 1880s based on Alva Vanderbilt’s determination to be accepted by the elite. There’s references to emancipation, women’s suffrage movement, union strikes, sabotage, political marriages, debutantes, etc etc. The fashions are phenomenal, great acting and character development. And Cynthia Nixon is cast as Aunt Ada.
What used to reflect somewhat high society, Real Housewives. I am painstakingly watching Real Housewives of Potomac and have completely given up on New York. I’m happy Robin and Co are no longer getting a Bravo check. Although she’s a pretty woman her story line ran stale. Ashley is still up there… but i’m ready for her to go, maybe come back with new love and decorated. Wendy is educated and gorgeous. Giselle and Karen wacked Mia on the second episode and the new girls are less entertaining than the original cast, by far! Right now I’m curious how this DUI incident with Karen is going to ripple throughout the season. I’m sure Mia’s marital and parental drama would be a great deflection and vice versa. Well, at least Ashley and Giselle brought leggings to life…
MUNI LONG, Revenge. I really love it when people know how to sing and write and make albums. This is a true R&B album with incredible production, story telling, bridges and vocal stacks. She has the R & B album of the year in the bag for me. Look at this performance of Ruined Me off the Revenge album. Phenomenal.
What’s on your watch list? Any recommendations? I keep hearing good things about Tell Me Lies…
