Tuesday, November 5th, The Section 8 Sex Symbol, Pardison Fontaine, shared his debut album, Under8ed, with a room exclusively to ladies for a night of Paint & Sip. There was wine, aged-cheese, grapes, crackers, paint and Hennessy. It was an evening of laughter, love, and focus but, that’s what expected in the midst of great music! Unarthodox Gallery, in Chelsea, hosted the event and the women in attendance painted their version of the exclusive debut album’s cover art.
If you’re new to Paint & Sip, like I was, its easy to fall behind in instruction. But, that’s okay! The instruction was pretty easy, they leave room for lots of questions, and provide plenty napkins! Unarthodox is a great space for intimate gatherings such as the one for Pardi, birthdays, after work events, and other related “shin-digs“
If you don’t know who Pardison Fontaine is, check to see if you’ve been living under a rock. Fontaine is the pen behind some of your favorite Cardi B hits like, Backin’ It Up, Be Careful, Bickenhead and Bodak Yellow. He also has credits on Kanye West’ s 8th studio album, “Ye”.
I had a chance to chat with his brother, Jonathan, about life growing up in Newburgh. Turns out, if he wasn’t going to do music, he would’ve played basketball. In fact, he was really good at it but, his passion for music was stronger than his love for basketball. He says, “some people are just born with it.”
The album is very relatable, honest and true to Fontaine’s life and experiences. It’s a great introduction to who he is as an artist, outside of his writing for other musicians. The cover art is inspired by his experience growing up Newburgh, New York. It’s a juxtaposition between living in Section 8 and the seemingly rare practice of love and compassion amongst the people surviving and living it’s reality. The influence for his album, he says is, “every experience I’ve ever had, every encounter I’ve made… piece of music that I liked… I tied it in. Section 8, love and compassion is the marriage (the album) between the two.”
Some people are just born with it but, everyone has to work hard! From being raised upstate, realizing music is his calling, pushing his work in offices, writing hits for Cardi B and Kanye West, to his debut album, being born with it and perseverance is the marriage of his current and future success.
I look forward to the Under8ted release on 11/15 (also my birthday) and more music from the Section 8 Sex Symbol!
