Tory Lanez had those 10 years coming & if it were me, he would have gotten more time.
The ego can be a powerful tool to leverage when creating your sense of self. Itβs the only part of the conscious personality. It governs our decision making, how we view ourselves and show up in the world. Itβs the mediator between reality and fantasy. The ego itself isnβt a bad thing. An inflated ego, however, rooted in a false sense of self and distorted reality can really ruin you.
Remember when DaniLeigh scribbled, βYellow Boneβ, praising light skin women. Her confidence in being light skin was rooted in the belief that men preferred that complexion in women and by proxy, made her better than brown and darker skinned women. Post release of the song, baby daddy, DaBaby who she was referencing, left her and the baby for dead. Ms. Yellow Boneβs confidence was rooted in distorted reality. Her ego led her to believe that her desirability would protect her from being treated like shit; despite Da Babyβs history of violence and infidelity. So, not only did her ego get so big she had a baby with a documented violent man, she became the culprit of a DUI hit and run accident and her career never recovered.
An inflated and fragile ego can cause you to become violent in attempts to defend the false self. In the case of Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez, the proof was in the pudding. Words were exchanged, Tory did not like what was being said and in effort to defend his βmasculinityβ he shot Megan in the foot. After 2 years of slander, defamation and inciting violence towards Megan, Tory is finally sentenced to 10 years in prison. Only the bruised ego will bring you to shoot someone, show no remorse, assume youβll get away with it by bullying, bribing a witness, accusing prosecutors of white supremacy, and concocting public appeal via slander. Tory thought because other men got away with inflicting violence against Black women that he too would be safe. His desperate attempts of winning this case backfired and was probably punished to the fullest extent of the law for not only being violent, but also, arrogant. Talk about self sabotage.
August 5th, Alabama proved that a fragile ego creates bruised limbs. A Black security guard rightfully asked a white platoon owner to move his boat so that the Harriet cruise ship can dock. The white platoon owner refused to move, provoked and initiated a mob attack against the Black security guard. What the white mob didnβt realize was that the Black men and women witnessing this attack had the courage and unity to, well, beat every ass that fought against that Black man. Because of the false ideology that white men and women are more superior to black men and women, that white man found it apropos to attack the man for telling him to move his boat. Him and his entire family left limping, lumped up and arrested.
In each occurrence, the ego was beefed up by a false sense of superiority. Personal value being rooted in being better than or above another person will only make you more vulnerable to threats than you allow yourself to see. Your self-worth and decision making should be based on what is true for you individually, independent of how you view other people and how you believe others perceive you. Itβs easy to play yourself believing you are better than the next person because that belief leads you to believe that bad things canβt and wonβt happen to you, even if they are consequences of your own actions.
The ego is the brainβs way of keeping you safe and like every muscle, you have to exercise it. People with inflated egos usually are deeply insecure because they do not exercise thoughts or properly navigate negative emotions that trigger vulnerability or negate the thoughts they have of themselves. These people allow their ego to delude themselves to be entitled, defensive, and obvious. Their inflated egos make it that much easier for others to spot their weaknesses because they are so busy trying to hide them instead of healing them.
What do you think about the Tory Lanez sentencing? Do you think it was enough time or too much? Who was your favorite fighter at Rumble In The River? Itβs a cross between the young man that swam, and the woman who tossed βol girl in the river. Let me know in the comments lol.
