Last night, Lythouse Studio was occupied by an art experience inspired by, and payed homage to, the iconic New York hip hop label, Roc-A-Fella records. Howie Fuller, kingdottheruler and Dev, dev_sterling curated the night in celebration of the iconic Roc-A-Fella label, Jay-Z, Damon “Dame” Dash, Kareem “Biggs” Burke, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, ODB, Kanye West, Just Blaze, Jim Jonez, Juelz Santana, and Young Gunz, to name a few. With an open bar, sponsored by Diplomático Rum, Essentia, and 9 Lives Wine, cupcakes designed with Roc-A-Fella in mind, photobooth, hosting by Chris, chrisjamelnyc ,and DJs providing that 90s hip-hop vibe, who wouldn’t have a great time witnessing the union between detailed art pieces and good music.
The art exhibit opened with two sessions, 5p – 8p and 8p – 11:30p. Both showcased work from artists including a.vwayans, soundslikecorey, neece__, vnsatorresart, tatianadiazduque, hueyp_art, rim_the_artist, canvasassassin__, kazz_mythology, and many more. Each piece was unique and artists used various creative mediums to create pieces embodying the timeless era.
’96 Til Forever produced a space for creatives, lovers of hip hop, writers, celebrities, influencers, regular nine to fivers, millenials and “old heads” to unapologetically explore their appreciation and the influence the label had in their lives. Conversations about which Jay-Z album was the best, how artists developed their work, networking and negotiating pieces for sale all transpired under the work of Howie and Dev’s curation. The late session being quickly and completely sold out is proof of the impact Roc-A-Fella has on New York City and the need for more events like ’96 Till Forever.
I can’t wait to see what’s next!
